Save the date! Indy’s hottest new musical is premiering June 7th-8th & 14th-15th 2024 at Franklin College, and we want you to be a part of it!
"Love that outlasts evil, strength that defies innumerable odds, women who re-build when their lives are ruined, and ladies who aren't afraid to "burn things down...to clear the way."
“Just Beginning” tells the true story of seventeen women who were falsely imprisoned in 18th century France and sent on a chain gang across the ocean to Mississippi. The incredible women who survived the journey became the founding mothers of the Southern States.
“Just Beginning” is a gritty, gripping, and relevant re-telling of their story through the use of singing, orchestral music, dancing, circus arts, and Hamilton-like verse. “Just Beginning” brings an artful look into history, celebrates pride, and donates a percent of proceeds to a local organization against modern-day human trafficking called “Unconditional” to help end today’s cases of exploitation, and provide a hopeful future to vulnerable local women & children.
We invite you to be a part of this incredible new work, by partnering in its onstage production in Indianapolis! “Just Beginning,” by Indianapolis composer Dr. Laura Krell is unprecedented in its historical depiction of these ladies, and in several production elements incorporating aerial circus arts, a social justice mission, and genealogical component, which draw audiences to learn about their own history by telling the stories of these founding mothers of the south. This work stands to represent forgotten women, and give honor to their incredible true stories.
